Most of the people think that there is any kind of trick or tip that will improve their drawing. When you start making artwork or start drawing , you often feel that even after trying so much there is no improvement in your drawing. And in the end they stop drawing thinking that they don’t have skills.

To improve your drawing there are some factors that beginners often ignore. Making mistakes is not bad, not correcting them is one big mistake. The most important thing is to identify the mistake and work on it rather than repeating several things.

Here are some common mistakes beginners do while practicing:

Trying to make a perfect art

While making art or drawing we try to make it perfect and professional. In search of perfection beginners forget the basics and when basics are ignored no matter how hard you try, you get no results. To improve your drawing first master the basics and then perfection will be achieved automatically

 Start drawing without practice

Another common mistake beginners make is, they don’t give time for practice. The most required factor to improve your drawing is practice. The more you spend time in practice the more your drawing will improve. Make 4 to 5 practice art or drawing, make errors, mistakes and correct them, that is the real practice.

Focus on details first

While making a drawing or an artwork, we might have noticed that we pay more attention to the details first. Focusing on the complex details shifts our focus from basics to the advanced points. To improve our drawing focus on the basic shapes first then move on to the details, this will help you improve your observation and focus.

Select complex reference images

As a beginner, you might also have faced this problem too. We select heavily detailed and complex images as a reference, which is hard to make even for professionals also. For the initial phase one should select a simple and easy reference image as our goal is to only practice not professionalism.

Stop Drawing in middle

When a beginner starts drawing , there is a point where the drawing looks worse. The shape doesn’t match and looks ugly. Most of the new artists give up at that point without completing the artwork. That’s why they never improve their drawing.

These small mistakes have a heavy impact on improvement of your drawing skills. It is important to overcome these mistakes so that you can enhance your art and drawing skills to a better level. Avoiding these mistakes will keep you on track.

Ways to improve your drawing

Now you know your mistakes but still there is something missing that will help you improve your drawing faster and in a more effective way. To enhance your art and drawing skill you can follow the following ways and surely you will notice the improvement.

Daily 15 min practice

You don’t have to practice 2 or 3 hours a day, daily 15 min practice is enough for improvement of your drawing. Daily practice gives consistency and consistency beats motivation. Start drawing every single day for only 15 minutes and you will get better at drawing in no time.

Start from basic then go advance

Instead of jumping on the advanced features try to make the basic features first. By doing this, your observation and imagination will get better and you will identify the basic elements quickly and your art will improve significantly.

Observe first before drawing

When it comes to observation most of the beginners just glance over the reference image or object. If you want to improve your drawing you first have to observe more. Take time and observe your reference completely and then start drawing.

Practice using real objects

Look around yourself, take some real life objects as reference like waterbottle, books, lamps, etc and try to draw them. This will help you identify the basic shapes in your surroundings and will develop your drawing skills.

Copy your ideal’s art

It is proven that by coping your ideal will improve your skill much faster than others. When you try to copy others you first observe their work, each and every detail gets noticed by you. Again copy to learn not to create, a real artist always learns by copying others.

Try to understand light and shadow

Try to understand the light direction and shadow formation. This will improve your drawing skill and help you understand how real life shadow formation works and how you can make the shadow and light effect in your art work.

Art is all about learning and creating, every artist learn by doing mistakes but only those get better who keep correcting themselves. Remember those who are professionals were once beginners too. Keep creating and keep improving yourself.
