Hatching 

Hatching is the most common sketching technique that a new artist can use. It is simple and easy to understand and apply. In hatching technique, we make close lines parallel to each other moving from one direction to another. Hatching is mostly used for sketching and creating shadow effects, tones and textures in the artwork, it gives depth to the drawing.

How to Practice Hatching Technique As Beginner

To practice hatching, take a pencil and a clean paper and start making slanting lines parallel and close to each other. Try to make them form each direction and also use lighter and darker tones by applying pressure on the pencil.


Cross Hatching

Cross hatching is a type of hatching but an upgraded version. Artist also use cross hatching to add texture and depth to the artwork just like hatching techniques. By using cross hatching we can get a 3d look in our drawing.

How to Do Cross Hatching

In this Sketching technique, instead of making slanting lines we use cross parallel lines. To practice this method, make slanting lines as we have done in hatching and then make cross slanting lines on them. Use can also create depth to these techniques by making lighter and darker lines that creates an illusion.


Scribbling Method

The most easy and fun Sketching technique for new artists, that is the scribbling technique. Scribbling doesn’t need any specific shape or lines to draw, that’s why it is easy to understand and practice. To add shadow and texture in sketch, scribbling method is useful. Scribbling is beginner friendly, which means it is easy to understand this method.

To make this pattern you need to make random lines and circles and try to overlap them to get the  desired texture or the shadow shade. This technique allows you to make random shapes and their shadows.


Stippling Technique

Stippling is also a Sketching technique in which instead of using lines and circles, we use dots to make the Sketching part. While this is a pen or ink sketching technique, still this can be used in sketching. This Sketching technique requires patience and control.

How to Make Stippling Shade

To make an effective stipping shade you just have to make dots with an inked pen. To make light shade keep some space between them and to make dark shade keep the dots close to each other.


Blending Method

Blending is the most used Sketching technique by artists you see on the internet. It provides realistic texture and volume to the artwork, which is fair enough why most of the artists use this technique. The blending effect is made by continuously rubbing the pencil tip closely in the same pattern. 

How to Do Blending

Blending technique is meant for a clean and smooth texture and Sketching. To learn blending, take a clean paper and start rubbing your pencil tip on it. Remember, don’t give space between the lines, keep them overlapping to each other.

Once done with that take a tissue or you can use your finger to make the lines smooth and blend them with each other. You can also make the shade darker by repeating the process again on the same spot.
